What Happened to Fueled Fridays?

The short answer is that I have become extremely busy since the launch of my new company (a.k.a. Internet Marketing) in March and the subsequent acquisition of my company (within two months of launching) by another firm. The acquisition won’t change how I operate the business, but I just have lots more responsibilities as I am serving as the Chief Marketing Officer of the parent company as well and overseeing marketing for their multiple brands. The good news is that aside from blogging, I can offer more resources for learning online marketing and for our clients. I will maintain Fueled Fridays as a monthly column for the time being and expect to resume next Friday.

What Are You Waiting For? – Fueled Friday (late edition)

This will be short and sweet. Yes, I know I missed another Fueled Friday, but the good news is that the new business is growing very rapidly. I did have a bout of illness last week, and also had a new machine installed (which is a HUGE task but something I am grateful for). I also upgraded my email systems which was LONG overdue. Anyhow, back to you!

If you have been reading these consistently, you have had lots of opportunity to improve your presence online. Human nature being what it is, I am confident that most of the readers that not implemented everything they have learned. Today I am going to be a coach and motivator and ask why you have not done everything you can do make your website successful. If you have kept up, then my question to you is “what do you need to learn next and why have you not gone out and gotten the information you need?” (no one gets off easy).

Personally, I am working on lots of new stuff. I am constantly learning and implementing what I learn. My clients actually benefit because often I will use their sites to test new strategies that might lead to better results faster.

My challenge is:

1. Go back and look over the previous Fueled Friday posts and find something you can implement THIS WEEK.

2. If you can’t find anything to implement (which would be hard), then write down your biggest challenge with your online marketing, then do a Google search and find the solution and start to implement it THIS WEEK.

3. Let me know if you get stuck.

Getting Local Exposure Online Through Map Based Search – Fueled Friday

Over the next several Fridays, I will be discussing the different methods of getting local search engine traffic. I want to start with map based search results. Have you ever done a web search for a local company and seen a map appear with business listings next to it (like the image below)? Every local search does not produce a map based results, but for the ones that do, there lies a great opportunity to attract local website visitors without paying an arm and a leg.

So your next question should be “how do I get listed in the map based search results?” The first step towards showing up in being listed. If you have not claimed your business listing at Google, Yahoo, and Bing, you need to go to each of their local business centers and claim your business. It does not cost anything to do this, so there is no reason not to. When you claim your listing, you will have to verify the contact information and other data about your business. In some cases, you can verify this with a phone call and in other instances, you will be sent a postcard in the mail with a PIN to verify your business listing.

Your business profile will usually be live within a few weeks. Doing a search for your business by name will help you confirm whether or not the listing is live. What you really want is to rank in the top searches by keyword that come up next to the map and there are a few things you can do to increase the odds:

1. Build a Complete Business Profile. Make sure to fill out every area that you can. Where you are able to add images and videos, make sure you go the extra mile because the search engines are looking for quality profiles to return as search results.

2. Choose the Right Business Category.
When selecting the business category, one “secret” is to do a search and see if it produces a map based results (since not all do). If it does not, then you might want to choose a category that reflects an industry that you serve that does display a map as this will give you far better results.

3. Make Sure Your Address is Accurate. One of the things that really bothers people is when they live close to a certain area, but their physical address does not reflect that they are close to a larger city. The search engines are pretty smart at knowing exactly where your address is, so don’t worry. Keep in mind that your business will show up relative to searches done around your physical address.

A few more notes on addresses:
– The business address cannot be a P.O. Box. Yes, I have seen them go through, but just know that is not what they are looking for.
– If you have multiple locations, this is a great opportunity to capitalize on this by making sure you have a profile for each location.
– If you operate a home based business, keep in mind that if you use this address in your profile, it will be public. Some people do not realize this until it is too late.

4. Get Reviews. This is the single most important element in my opinion. If you do a local search, you will notice that most of the listing that appear next to the maps have reviews – and lots of them. Just about any local site where someone can do a review will eventually make its way to the reviews in your local business profile. One thing we do for our clients is put together a document with all of the local business listings at sites such as Insider Pages, Yelp, etc and tell them to share this document with their clients and customers and we have seen great results from this.

The Simplest Way to Increase Your Conversion Rates – Fueled Friday

Many people invest time and money into getting visitors to their website. The sad fact – and what many online marketing consultants don’t let people know up front – is that statistically 95% of more of the people that visit your website will not do business with you. When you put it that way, it sounds unbelievable, but think about how you search the web. When you are searching online, how many times do you do business with the very first link you click on? Probably never, especially if you are doing research and wanting to find the best value for your dollar.

The percentage of website visitors that either purchase from you or contact you is referred to as the conversion rate. It is a measure of how many visitors are converted to prospects of customers. If you sell a product online, this will be easier to track because you can look at the number of visitors and the number of sales. If you have a service based company or do not sell online, this will require that you make sure to find out exactly how your customers found you.

There are several factors that determine whether or not someone considers your website to have what they are looking for. Most of all, your website should have a professional look and feel. If the site looks like an amateur designed it, that will certainly not give the customer a sense of confidence; especially if you are asking for their credit card information. This includes seemingly small things like having poor grammar or typographical errors. Another thing that gives consumers confidence is seeing reputable “seals” such as the BBB logo. Website usability (the science of understanding how your customer reacts to what they see) can be complex and my intention was not to discuss website usability.

Given that most people are not going to stay on your site or do business with you on the first visit, the simplest and most effective way to increase the percentage of people that do business with you is to capture their contact information (name and email) so you can follow up with them. Ideally, you should offer them something of value that will entice them to give you their information (such as a “how to” guide or a white paper) and this should be followed up by a series of follow up emails offering more information on your products or services. You might even throw in a coupon or special offer to entice them to act.

There are several systems that will allow you to simply integrate this functionality into your website. I recommend Aweber for it’s features as well as affordability. I have used Aweber successfully over the past several years personal and for many clients who have all been satisfied. How to Maximize Your Online Marketing Efforts – Fueled Friday

For those that did not know, I started a new company a few weeks ago. I have not made a big media push or make any announcements yet because I had so much to do to get the business up and running, and most of all I needed to take care of those that needed immediate help with their online marketing efforts. There will be more to come on this very soon. This is my excuse for skipping last weeks Fueled Friday (my first and hopefully last).

Every day, I talk to someone about some form of online marketing. The one thing that people always want to know is “how much traffic will I get.” We discuss market potential, estimated percentages, and the like and they have a broad idea of what to expect over time. What is more important is knowing what percentage of your website visitors will do business with you. The sad statistic is that on average, 97% of the people that come to your website will not do business with you. Ask yourself how many websites you visit when you are looking for something before you buy. Your website visitors are no different.

A few strategies can help you increase the percentage of people that either stay or take the next step and contact you:

1. Give them a good match for their search query. If someone does a web search for “invoice factoring”, the page that they land on better speak specifically to the topic, otherwise you have lost that visitor. If you have multiple service offerings from your company, it is critical that you have specific pages that discuss each separately to help your prospect find what they are looking for.

2. Get their contact information (ethically). This is the most important because if you are able to send educational and informative follow up emails, over time you will find that you are getting more sales from these prospects that otherwise would never have heard from you again. There are several email marketing systems to choose from, but the most robust system by far is InfusionSoft. It is far more than just an email marketing system, but rather a business automation and enhancement system. As an affiliate, I am offering a free 15-day trial of InfusionSoft.

3. Using a Live Chat operator. Just a few days ago I was looking into some software and the live chat operator popped up. I didn’t chat, but it did entice me to call and I got all of my questions answered. Once such option is Website Alive, which also offers a free trial.
